Physical Education

PS/MS 105 offers the CHAMPS program to our students during the mornings and afternoons and is run by Mr. Stavola and Mr. Long.  K-5 CHAMPS offers the BOKS program, a Reebok sponsored program designed to promote fitness and healthy eating in the morning.  We also have soccer and basketball for 4-5 graders.  Middle school CHAMPS has split programs offering flag football, volleyball, floor hockey, softball, and basketball.

Our girls volleyball team coached by Mr. Stavola competes against other schools on the peninsula and in the Howard Beach area.  Our girls dedicate themselves to practice every day at lunch and develop the skills needed to compete and play in high school.

Our 4-time champion boys basketball program led by Mr. Long competes against other schools on the peninsula and in the Howard Beach area.  The students dedicate themselves to basketball during their lunch period and focus on team work as they improve their skills for the season and beyond.

Move-To-Improve (MTI) is an in class PE program coordinated by our K-5th grade teachers.  We are an All-Star MTI school as over 85% of our teachers have received the training from Mr. Long and Mr. Stavola.  These fitness breaks in class promote learning, good health, and energize our students in class helping them reach the required number of PE minutes per week.

Music

In music class here at 105 the students perform different styles of music by singing and moving expressively. We have various classroom percussion instruments that we play each class to create music together. We learn to work together as a team to create music. Our school has a chorus club in which we sing at our local nursing home as well as our school lobby during the holidays. It is important for the students to express themselves through music in our school and in doing so we discover how amazingly talented they really are!

Art

The students at PS/MS 105 are exposed to all different types of art and the students are encouraged to express what they see through their own art. Students draw, use chalk, sculpt, use clay, construct and use different technology to create art at 105.

Projects will vary from using KANO, SCRATCH, LEGOS and more. Students will be encouraged to work in their group to find solutions to the tasks given.
